6-stage Aquarium 50 GPD Reverse Osmosis System RO/DI with HM Inline TDS meter

6-Stage Saltwater Aquarium RO/DI System with Dual DI Filtration and Monitoring

Produce high-purity water for reef aquariums, saltwater aquariums, hydroponics, laboratory support, and other low-TDS applications with this advanced 6-stage RO/DI system.

The system combines sediment filtration, two carbon pre-filtration stages, a high-efficiency reverse osmosis membrane, and two refillable mixed-bed deionization filters. The dual DI configuration provides additional resin capacity and a final polishing stage to help produce approximately 0 ppm TDS water under suitable operating conditions.

An included dual inline TDS meter allows you to monitor water quality at two points in the system, while the pressure gauge helps identify low feed pressure or restricted pre-filters.

Ideal for Professional Reef and Aquarium Use: The dual DI stages provide additional protection against TDS breakthrough and help maintain consistent final-water quality when the filters and resin are properly monitored and replaced.

Optional Reservoir Control: A compatible float valve, Part No. 105369 , may be added to control the water level in an open reservoir or aquarium storage container.

A float valve alone may not shut down the complete RO system. Confirm that the system includes the required automatic shut-off valve, pressure switch, or solenoid control for your selected configuration.

Why Use Two DI Stages?

  • Provides additional mixed-bed resin capacity
  • Helps maintain approximately 0 ppm TDS for a longer period
  • Allows the second DI stage to act as a final polishing filter
  • Helps reduce the risk of unexpected TDS breakthrough
  • Makes resin replacement easier to manage and monitor

The total amount of RO/DI water produced before resin replacement depends on the TDS entering the DI stages, membrane performance, water usage, resin condition, and how tightly the resin is packed.

Under suitable conditions, the system may produce a substantial volume of low-TDS water before resin replacement is required, but a fixed gallon capacity cannot be guaranteed for every installation.

DI Resin Maintenance: Refillable DI cartridges should remain tightly packed. If the resin settles or creates open channels inside the housing, water may bypass part of the media and reduce treatment performance.

Replace or repack the DI resin when the final-water TDS begins to rise above the level required for your aquarium or application.

For more information about the refillable DI filter, see Part No. 104050 .

Important Flushing Instruction: Always bypass the DI stages when flushing a new RO membrane or after replacing pre-filters. Initial flush water may contain carbon fines, preservatives, or elevated TDS that can prematurely exhaust the DI resin.

Six Stages of Filtration

  1. Stage 1: 1-micron polypropylene sediment filter Part No. 104001
  2. Stage 2: Granular activated carbon filter Part No. 104004
  3. Stage 3: 5-micron carbon block filter Part No. 104005
  4. Stage 4: Thin-film composite RO membrane, 50 GPD standard configuration Part No. 104092
  5. Stage 5: Refillable mixed-bed DI filter Part No. 104050
  6. Stage 6: Second refillable mixed-bed DI polishing filter Part No. 104050

The refillable DI cartridges can be refilled using Max Water bulk mixed-bed DI resin: Part No. 104135-5 .

Water-Quality Benefits

  • Helps reduce sediment, dirt, and rust particles
  • Helps reduce chlorine, tastes, and odours
  • Helps reduce TDS = Total Dissolved Solids. through the RO membrane
  • DI stages provide additional removal of remaining dissolved ions
  • May produce approximately 0 ppm TDS under suitable conditions
  • Suitable for reef aquariums and other sensitive aquatic applications
  • Dual-stage DI design provides additional final-water polishing

Actual contaminant reduction and final-water quality depend on feed-water chemistry, pressure, temperature, membrane condition, resin condition, flow rate, and system maintenance.

Included Components

  • 6-stage reverse osmosis and deionization unit
  • Selected RO membrane; price may vary by selection
  • One complete set of installed pre-filters
  • Two refillable mixed-bed DI filtration stages
  • HM Digital DM-1 dual inline TDS meter
  • Dry vertical pressure gauge
  • Filter-housing wrench
  • Standard installation accessory pack

Configuration Notice: Storage tanks, faucets, float valves, booster pumps, and other accessories are included only when specifically selected during checkout.

Monitoring the System

Dual Inline TDS Meter

The DM-1 TDS meter measures water quality at two points. A common configuration is:

  • First reading: RO water entering the DI stages
  • Second reading: Final product water after the second DI stage

This helps you evaluate membrane performance and determine when the DI resin is becoming exhausted.

Pressure Gauge

The pressure gauge monitors feed pressure entering the membrane. A noticeable pressure drop may indicate clogged sediment or carbon filters.

System Specifications

Specification Details
System Type 6-stage RO/DI system with dual refillable DI stages
Standard Membrane Capacity 50 GPD; other capacities may be available by selection
Expected Final-Water TDS Approximately 0 ppm when the membrane, DI resin, feed pressure, and operating conditions are suitable
Approximate RO Membrane TDS Reduction Approximately 95%–97%, depending on membrane and conditions
Final DI Conductivity May be below 0.1 µS/cm with fresh resin and suitable feed-water conditions
Final DI Resistivity May approach 18 MO·cm with fresh resin and suitable operating conditions
Approximate Product-to-Drain Ratio Approximately 1:2
RO Unit Dimensions 15 in. L × 6 in. D × 17 in. H
Approximate Total Weight 16 lb.
Operating-Water Temperature 40–104°F, maximum 40°C
Recommended Operating Pressure 45–75 PSI

Higher-Capacity Membranes: For configurations rated at 150 GPD or higher, a correctly sized booster pump is strongly recommended to help the membrane operate near its rated production capacity.

Low-Pressure Installation: If incoming pressure is below 45 PSI, add a correctly sized booster pump and compatible high-pressure shut-off switch.

High-Pressure Installation: If incoming pressure exceeds 75 PSI, install a pressure regulator and adjust the feed pressure to approximately 60–65 PSI.

Water-Safety Warning: This system is intended for use with a microbiologically safe water supply. Do not use it as the only treatment for water of unknown biological quality without appropriate testing, pretreatment, or disinfection.

TDS = Total Dissolved Solids.

Filter and Resin Maintenance

  • Replace sediment and carbon pre-filters every 6–12 months under normal residential conditions, or sooner if pressure drops.
  • Monitor RO-water TDS to evaluate membrane performance.
  • Replace or refill the first DI stage when its outlet TDS begins to rise.
  • Replace or refill the second DI stage before final-water TDS rises above the level required for your aquarium.
  • Keep refillable DI cartridges tightly packed to reduce channeling.
  • Always bypass the DI stages while flushing a new membrane or new pre-filters.

Performance Notice: Final-water TDS, conductivity, resistivity, membrane output, drain ratio, and filter life are approximate. Results vary according to feed-water TDS, pressure, temperature, membrane condition, DI-resin quality, resin packing, water usage, and overall system configuration.

ro di 6 stage
First one I purchased and don't have any other system to compare to, however, would have preferred to have the tubing to be in different colors, and instructions to set up the over-float valve, delivery was prompt and, even for me was easy set it up was easy.

I parched the 6 stage aquarium reverse osmosis system ro di + hm inline tds meter, It was delivered in good time. It was mostly assembled in the packaging however the connecting plastic elbows had been broken during shipping, I figure it was due to the lack of protective padding around the end of the unit and rough handling by the currier. I contacted MaxWater support through there online form and got a quick response. They sent out a new elbow and was at my home within 3 days. I assembled the unit and put it in place within 2 hours and it works great. It preforms as advertised. I have no complaints to offer.
