Teflon Instructions
Teflon, also known as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), is a popular non-stick material used in various applications.
Step 1:
- 1/4" Wide Tape should be used on 1/8", 1/4", and 3/8" male threads.
- 1/2" Wide Tape should be used on 1/2" and larger male threads.
Note:
Prior to wrapping Teflon tape, ensure the Pipe Thread is thoroughly cleaned, and be sure to have a WRENCH/SPANNER on hand for the process.
Step 2:
Wrap the tape clockwise or in the direction of the thread spiral direction on the male pipe thread starting with the SECOND THREAD. Tape must be kept FLAT. Wrap 8-15 Revolutions, depending on the pipe thread.
Note:
Tape should never extend beyond or overhang the first thread as the loose tape can shred and fall into the fluid system, which is dangerous.
Step 3:
Cut/Tear the excess tape off. If Tape does not lie flat, firmly press the tape into the threads.
Step 4:
Tighten the male end connection into the mating female end connection until finger tight. Keep as straight as possible to avoid cross-threading.
Note:
Do not forcibly tighten by hand, which poses high risk of damaging the product.
Step 5:
Tighten the male end connection with a wrench until wrench-tight.
