Detailed Description:

2 lbs Mixed Bed Ion Exchange 0 ppm DI resin, RO aquarium ( old part # 104028 )

Excellent High-Capacity Mixed Bed Industrial Grade media for deionization of water for industrial, aquatic, and other water treatment applications.

If you are looking for food-grade resin usable in drinking + aquarium, please search our food grade resin Part # 104135

For reference, 2 pounds of resin is enough to refill a 2"x10" in-line refillable filter housing about 3 to 4 times or 2.5"x10" refillable filter (for standard 10" housing) about 2 to 3 times depending on how much you fill and sponge thickness you load. This bag should be enough to refill a 2"x10".

  • This amount of DI resin is enough to process approximately 2000 gallons of Reverse Osmosis Water Quality.
  • TDS meter is required to measure the life of the resin.
  • DI filter (Mix Bed Resin) named as a de-ionization stage.

Demineralization Resin used to produce 99.99% pure water by simply attaching this convenient deionization filter with the RO unit. Convenient post RO filtration DI unit (RO/DI unit) provides crucial supplemental filtration to remove most impurities for pure polished product water. Excellent in areas with hard water. Produce 99.99% pure water. It will give you 0 ppm TDS, Conductivity attainable less than 0.1uS/cm, or resistivity of close to 18 meg.ohm. Simply DI filter removes remaining dissolved solids after RO system.

Mixed Bed Deionization

Ion exchange resins may be safely stored for prolonged periods of time in areas where the ambient temperature is between 4-40°C (41-104°F).

In rare cases, it may be necessary to store ion exchange resins in their less stable forms. In these instances, it is important that precautions be taken to assure that the ion exchange resins are properly stored in a hydrated condition at temperatures, which rarely exceed 40°C (104°F) for prolonged periods of time.

During the shipment to and storage in areas where temperatures drop below 0°C (32°F), storage precautions should be taken to avoid subjecting ion exchange resins to repeated freezing-thawing conditions. Although a few freeze-thaw cycles are generally harmless, repeated freezing-thawing of ion exchange resins, regardless of the forms in which they are supplied, could bring about physical attrition of the ion exchange resin by physically breaking the resin beads. Generally recommended Rules of Thumb are that un-regenerated resins be used within five years, regenerated resins used within one year, and low TOC grade resins used within a month or two.

Common Causes of DI Resin Failure

The lifespan of DI resin is relatively short, with optimal output typically lasting only 1 to 2 minutes. It is crucial to carefully follow instructions to understand the resin's functionality and make an informed decision about investing in such systems.

When DI resin fails to produce water with zero or low Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), there are several potential causes. Let's explore some common reasons behind this issue:

  1. If you are using this DI system for aquarium purposes, ensure that your membrane is functioning optimally with a 96-97% rejection rate to prolong the life of the resin.
  2. High Incoming Levels: If you use this DI for a car wash system with High city water exceeding 150 PPM, this DI will not achieve a low PPM reading. Avoid purchasing it in such cases.
  3. Resin Exhaustion: DI resin becomes exhausted and loses its effectiveness over time or after processing a significant volume of water. Check usage against recommended PPM guidelines for replacement.
  4. Improper Usage: The lifespan of resin is brief, and any incorrect setup or application can lead to a short working period. Follow instructions meticulously to thoroughly grasp the resin's operation before investing in such systems.
  5. Car Washing Technique: Avoid using DI water for washing cars directly; instead, wash with regular tap water and use DI water for a final rinse. Neglecting this step can lead to dissatisfaction with system performance.
  6. Optimal DI Water Usage: Utilize the misting valve to control DI water usage efficiently. Without it, excessive DI water consumption during car washing can occur, leading to premature exhaustion.
  7. Recommendations for Optimal Performance
     -   Use two DI Filters in a Series: For the best results, particularly in areas with PPM readings of 150 and higher, it is                       crucial to use two DI filters. This setup helps bring the PPM reading close to zero, ensuring optimal water quality.
     -  Achieve Zero PPM: For customers with high initial PPM readings, achieving a PPM reading of zero with this system is               essential for maintaining the quality and efficiency of the car wash process.

  8. High Flow Rate Considerations: If water passes through the resin too swiftly (fast flow), insufficient contact time for            ion exchange can result in lower purity water output (resulting in a high PPM reading).
  9. Water Temperature and Composition: Elevated temperatures can influence ion exchange efficiency, requiring                    careful consideration.
10. Proper Packing and Channeling: Inadequate resin packing or channel formation within the container can hamper              effective ion exchange, potentially due to settling or improper filling.

Where to Store DI Mixed Bed Resin Media:

1.      Cool Environment: Store the resin in a cool, reasonably dry place. Ideal storage temperatures are between 10°C and 25°C (50°F and 77°F). Avoid extreme temperatures, especially heat, which can degrade the resin.

2.      Dry Location: Keep the resin away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture. High Humidity can affect the resin’s quality and performance.

3.      Well-Ventilated Area: Ensure the storage area is well-ventilated to prevent condensation and mold growth.

4.      Away from Chemicals: Store away from strong oxidizing agents, acids, bases, and other chemicals that can react with the resin.

How to Store DI Mixed Bed Resin Media:

1.      Keep it Away from Children.

2.      Sealed Containers: Keep the resin in airtight, sealed containers or bags to prevent exposure to air and moisture. Original packaging is often the best option if it is resealable.

3.      Avoid Freezing: Ensure the resin does not freeze, as freezing can cause physical damage to the resin beads, impacting their performance.

4.      Proper Labeling: Clearly label the containers with the type of resin, and date of purchase. This helps maintain an inventory and ensures the oldest resin is used first.

5.      Limited Exposure: Only open the containers when necessary and reseal them immediately after use to minimize exposure to air and contaminants.

6.      Regular Checks: Periodically check the condition of the resin if stored for extended periods. Look for signs of discoloration, moisture, or any other indication of degradation.

To address your specific situation, evaluate factors like flow rate, resin condition, and water composition, and consider replacing exhausted resin if necessary. Always ensure that your TDS meter is calibrated and reading correctly.
