How to Connect Your 5 Stage RO to the Fridge for Better Water Pressure?

Connecting your 5-stage Reverse Osmosis (RO) System correctly is crucial for enjoying crisp, refreshing water and ice from your fridge, especially if your main RO tank is located far away, which can lead to low water flow. This guide will walk you through the steps to ensure a steady flow and optimal water pressure, along with three effective solutions to enhance the water pressure.

1. Install a Demand Pump

One of the best solutions is to add a demand pump (also known as a delivery pump) with a flow rate of 1 or 2 gallons per minute (GPM). While we don't sell these pumps, they are widely available from other sellers on platforms like Amazon or eBay. Important: Avoid purchasing booster pumps or regular water pumps, as they are not designed for this purpose. A demand pump features a sensor that activates immediately when you want to fill a glass, ensuring consistent flow without fluctuations in pressure.

2. Add an Additional Tank

Another option is to incorporate a secondary tank. You don't need to stick with the standard 4.4-gallon size; smaller tanks (1 or 2 gallons) can be effective depending on your water usage. This additional tank can help maintain better pressure at the refrigerator, ensuring a steady supply of water.

3. Upgrade the Tubing

Consider upgrading the tubing that connects your main RO tank to the fridge. Replacing the existing tubing with 3/8" tubing and compatible fittings can significantly improve water flow. This simple upgrade can make a noticeable difference in the pressure delivered to your fridge.

Testing the Setup

Before making permanent changes, you can test your current setup. Move your existing tank closer to the fridge to see if this improves pressure. To do this:

  • Shut off the tank ball valve.
  • Move the tank closer to the fridge.
  • Connect the fridge directly to the tank using a single tube.
  • Open the tank valve and check the water line pressure.
  • If the pressure improves and meets your needs, you can then proceed to purchase a new tank and two T-connectors for installation.

By following these steps, you can effectively connect your 5-stage RO system to your fridge and enjoy improved water pressure!

Note:

Ensure that the main RO system’s feed water line is closed during this test to avoid any issues.
